How to Build Backlinks in 2018 (NEW Guide)

What are backlinks (and how do they work)?

A “back link” is created when an external or another website links to yours website. For this reason some people refer or told to them as “external back links” or “inbound links”.

But before entering the strategy of building heavy links …
You must ensure that your site is ready for back links.
When to build back links
Many people immerse themselves in the acquisition of links before they have built a solid foundation. What you should keep in mind is that a solid foundation (a well optimized website) makes your link more effective.
When your back links are more effective, you do not need so many to achieve the desired result!
Ultimately, it saves you time and money.
So, this is what you need to cover before jumping to link building:

 

1. Solve all the technical problems / UX

Technical problems can harm the user experience (UX) and UX correlates with SEO performance (or lack of it).
See this as a fundamental stage of the process.
That’s because, if you accelerate through this process, the back links will not be as effective.
And what happens when your back links are not so effective?
You have to buy more, which costs your company more money.
Here are some technical / UX problems you should look for:
• Site loading speed (use Google Page Speed ​​Insights)
• Friendly with mobile (use the Google Mobile Friendly check)
• Duplicate content (use Site liner)
• Canonical errors
• Duplicate META data
• Incorrect use of directives (noindex, nofollow, etc.)
Redirection chains
Sometimes the most obvious solutions / corrections are right in front of your face / site. Redirecting strings are another simple problem that can increase the authority of your site once corrected.

The problem is that the Page B is acting as a buffer between the Page A and the final destination the Page C.
This technical problem is stealing or illegal get the the Page C authority.
To solve this problem please you must redirect 301 the Page A to the Page C as follows:-

When fixing a redirect chain, it will send the authorization / link directly to the page.
That is more effective than having the equity of the link pass through a buffer.
302s
There is some debate about whether PageRank passes through 302 redirects or not. For many years, SEOs (including myself) have always stated that you must change from 302 to 301. This is still my position. However, this is what Gary Illyes said on the subject: “30x redirects no longer lose PageRank”.

Is Gary telling the truth? Probably.
But I still do not think it’s worth the risk.
Of the hundreds of SEO audits I’ve done, I’ve seen some websites that use 302 for their real purpose (a temporary redirect).
In most cases, the 302 are nothing but accidental.
With that said:
It is my preference to change from 302 to 301 if they are not being used for their real purpose.
Claim lost link juice (404 Link Reclamation)
404 link recovery is at the top of the list because it is the easiest.
You can use the Google Search Console to find 404s (Track> Crawl Errors> Not Found):

You can also use Screaming Frog to find 404 as well (Response Codes > Client Error – 4xx):

Then to see what 404 pages have backlinks, just use Ahrefs’ or Majestic’s bulk analysis tools.

I recommend doing both in case you lose some links.
When you find pages with an equitable link, you must redirect them to a relevant page on the site or to your home page.
Fix broken external links
Every external link that you place on your site loses authority.
That is why it is important to audit your site (here is an SEO audit checklist) to find broken external /others links.
This applies to external links in their content and in the comments section.
You can find easily these broken external / others links using Ah-refs tool.
Go to Outbound links and click on Broken links.

You can use Screaming Frog SEO Spider to find most of these problems, such as 302 redirects, redirect chains, 404 errors, canonical errors, duplicate META data, and incorrect uses of directives.
2. Develop a strong site architecture
Developing an intelligent site architecture is the best way to get the most out of your investment when it comes to building links.
My favorite site architecture strategy is to use an inverse silo.
Instead of trying to acquire backlinks to non-linkable pages (home pages, category pages, product pages, etc.), the inverse silo is designed to acquire backlinks to pages rich in content.
These can be blog posts or individual pages based on information.

This is a more effective approach to acquiring links because people are much more willing to link valuable information than sales-oriented pages.
With that said:
The ultimate goal of the inverse silo is to distribute the link authority (PageRank) of your content assets to your sales-oriented pages (through internal links).
I believe that this content-centric approach is the surest way to increase the authority of your site.
Taking me to the next point:
3. Create linkable assets
Any effective link building campaign should start with the creation of linkable assets.
First, what is a linkable asset?
A linkable asset is usually a blog post or an information-oriented page.
For example, this blog post you are currently reading is a linkable element. It is designed to educate and add value to my industry.

Not only is it easier to acquire backlinks to an asset with valuable content, but it is much more scalable in the long term.
This is because you can continue to earn new extra backlinks without much extra effort. That is, if you created the content in the correct way.

At this stage, your website has a solid base, so it’s time to start creating backlinks, right?
Wait a second.
You must have a clear understanding of what a “quality” link opportunity looks like before diving.
This will help:
7 Backward Quality Indicators
Not all backlinks are created equally and that is why it is essential that you know what a good backlink is like. Here are some guidelines to follow:
1. Relevance
Your # 1 link building goal should be to get backlinks on websites that are relevant to yours.
But do not take my word for it. This is what a former member of the Google search quality team, Andre Weyher, said in 2012:
Not only this, but take PR, for example, get a link to a page of high PR that used to be always valuable, nowadays it is more the relevance of the theme of the site with respect to yours, the relevance is the new PR . – Andre Weyher
This quote is stating the obvious:
Your link acquisition efforts should start with the most relevant opportunities.
But there is a problem with this approach:
Obtaining 100% exact relevance for each link is unrealistic.
That’s why I developed the framework of The Relevance Pyramid to prioritize its link opportunities.

Relevency premaid

The idea is very simple.
There is a limited supply of relevant link opportunities at 100%. However, as you expand your research, there will be many more opportunities to follow.
The key is to prioritize the opportunities at the top of the pyramid (since they are the most relevant) and move through the pyramid (towards less relevant opportunities).
Let me show you that how it would work with a more practical examples.
I’m going to show you that how I would prioritize opportunities / higher for a supplement company.
Level one: 100% relevance
I will designate a “1” for any opportunity that is 100% relevant to the supplement company. An example of 100% relevance would be a website that reviews the supplements. Or, a website that focuses on a specific supplement that the client offers such as creating.
As you can imagine, the 100% relevant opportunities are few and far between. This is especially true in the “supplement” industry. That’s because supplement companies create micro-supplement sites to persuade you. So the chance of landing a link are low.
Level two: 75% relevance
All opportunities that are 75% (Percent) relevant get a 2 designation. At this level, you will want to focus on the “body building” opportunities.
Level three: 50% relevance
At level three, you would focus on all “fitness” opportunities and assign them a “3”.
The fitness space has unlimited opportunities.
First, you would focus on pure “fitness” blogs. After that, it could happen to any kind of sports blogs, Cross Fit or brokers.
It would probably take a year to take advantage of all the opportunities within this level of relevance.

Level four: 25% relevance
At level four, he would focus on “health” opportunities and assign them a “4”.
There are countless websites about “health” in general. However, you can also access blogs on nutrition, elderly health, women’s health and men’s health.
Level five: 0% relevance
At level five, you would focus on more “general” opportunities.
For example, if I link to my wife’s guide to fall attire, it probably will not be as effective as a “Level 1” opportunity. That’s because SEO and fashion are not relevant to each other. But that does not mean that the link I injected will not work.
We classify “general” opportunities (Level 5) as authoritative news sites, universities and unrelated but high quality blogs.
You would assign a “5” to these opportunities.
News sites like Huffington Post, Fox, CNN or Yahoo would be targets at this level.
You’re probably wondering what “unrelated but high-quality blogs” are …
Let me explain.
You will want to ask yourself:
Does the supplement company have a CEO who would like to share success secrets?
If the answer is “Yes”, then focus on the blogs of business, business, small businesses, sales, marketing and Internet marketing.
You will also want to consider productivity or self-improvement blogs. That’s because both subjects could incorporate supplements in one way or another.
Now that you understand the model of the Relevance Pyramid, here is how it would look in practice:

The good thing about this process is that you can outsource the whole process.

So, what I just showed you is how you would take advantage of the concept of a Relevance Pyramid for a national SEO campaign.
Now let me show you how you can use this technique at the local level to prioritize link opportunities.

The backlinks with geographic orientation are the Creme de la creme of local SEO. That is why you must prioritize these opportunities in the Pyramid.
This is what our Local Relevance Pyramid looks like:

For this example, I will use a Chicago limousine company.
Level one: 100% geographically oriented and relevant to the niche
Your most precious prospects will be assigned here. This is because they must be relevant for both niches and geographical targets.
These are rare, but valuable.
An example would be a Chicago limousine directory.
Level two: 100% relevant niche
Level Two and Level Three are interchangeable, but we like to focus first on the relevant niche links.
Limousine blogs, limousine directories and limousine associations would fall into this category.
Level Three: 100% Geo-Targeted
At the third level, he would focus his efforts on the opportunities directed to Chicago.
The Chicago directories and the Chicago blogs are all just games here.
Level four: 50% relevant niche
At this stage you would concentrate your efforts on related niches. Wedding blogs and wedding directories would fit into this category.
Level five: 25% relevant niche
In Level Five, you would focus on travel blogs, transportation blogs and even dating blogs.

I think you have it:
The relevance of the link is very important, but how to know if an opportunity is relevant?
You want to examine:
1. The general content “subject” of the link domain. Is it relevant to yours?
2. The relevance of the backlinks that hit the domain. The website linking to your relevant website for yours?
I recommend the use of Majestic trust flow topics for this purpose.

2. authority
The stronger the site, the better the results will be.
Since Google no longer updates PageRank, you must rely on third-party metrics.
None of these third-party tools is perfect, but they will do the job.
I recommend analyzing opportunities using all available options.
The best link analysis tools are:
• Ahrefs
Majestic
• Open Site Explorer
3. Quality of the link
Third-party metrics, such as Domain Classification (Ahrefs), Trust Flow (Majestic) and Domain Authority (Moz), can be manipulated.
So, even though a website may seem “authoritative” on the surface, it can be completely dangerous when you dig deeper.
That’s why you should examine the link profile of your opportunities.
All the tools I mentioned above will do the job.
Use the same standards that I have described in this section to determine if the link profile of your link opportunity is high quality or not.
4. traffic
If you approach the acquisition of links with the intention of directing traffic to your website, change your whole mentality.
Your goal should be to get backlinks on the website with real traffic.
This does not mean that you will get a lot of referral traffic, but it is a good standard.
Since you will never know the exact traffic data of a site without entering your analysis, you should use SEM Rush or Ahrefs.

5. Editorial standards.
Why are diamonds valuable? Because they are hard to come by. This is how you need to get closer to your link building. The more difficult it is to connect a back link, the more valuable it is probably.
On the other hand:
The easier it is to get a back link, the less valuable it will be.
Focus on getting back links on websites that have editorial standards.
6. Outbound link quality
Websites with strong editorial guidelines will probably only be linked to quality resources. You want your link to be “live” around other quality outbound links.
Examine all potential websites and ask:
• What are they linked to?
• Are outbound links relevant?
• Do outbound links go to respected and trusted sites?
• Do the outbound / external links look natural or do they look like paid links?
7. Indexing
This is by far the most obvious point, but the destination website must be indexed in Google. If the site is not indexed, then your back links will have no value.
Simply go to Google and search for site: www.example.com. If they do not appear, avoid the website.
Now you know what a clean and shiny link profile looks like.
But now let me show you the back links you need to avoid.
Harmful back links to avoid
There are certain back links that should never touch your site.
If you decide to use these back links, simply know that your risk of a fine is much higher.
In fact:
I have seen that websites receive penalties for the use of these back links.
I’m telling you because I do not want you to think I’m guessing.
It is a fact that these back links can give you a manual or algorithmic penalty.
(Almost) everything that is irrelevant
Your level one should be a relevant wall that surrounds your site. I said that “almost” all links should be relevant due to the principle of the Relevance Pyramid that I described earlier.

Public networks
You can access almost any SEO forum and buy back links on public networks. These networks will often publicize their service as “private blog networks.” But that is a lie.
Once you are advertising a network then it is no longer private.
Throughout the short history of Google, has done everything possible to destroy public networks. After that, they go out and destroy all the websites that use these networks.
It’s easy for Google to detect these networks because:
A) there is an excessive amount of outbound links (usually 25-50 +) on the home page: the home pages on REAL websites do not have a ridiculous amount of outbound links on the home page.
B) Outbound links are completely irrelevant to each other: there will be links that will go to gambling sites, SEO sites, fitness sites, etc. It does not make any sense.
C) the content of each publication is thin (only 250 to 300 words): the Google Panda algorithm hates thin content.
D) can run, but can not hide: some networks will try to block the Ahrefs and Majestic trackers, but it is actually a fingerprint. On the other hand, networks that do not block the crawlers will probably be reported to Google because of an angry competitor. It is a lose-lose situation.
Follow the comments of the blog
 I suggest you here these are some of the cheapest back links you can buy. They are also the perfect recipe for landing a penalty.
Large amounts of outbound links + irrelevant links + outbound links going to “bad neighborhoods” (gambling, pharmaceutical, pornography, etc.) = a toxic back link
Remember the back link quality indicator # 6?
You do not want your link to live in this environment.

Sidebar, Footer Backlinks
I admit that the backlinks of the sidebar and the footer can work, but they are also risky.
Independent links look like paid backlinks and you know how Google feels about them.
The sellers who sell these high authority backlinks are also selling them to other websites. Most of these websites will be irrelevant to yours. That’s because these providers rarely reject money.
As a reminder:
You do not want your link to live with irrelevant or “bad neighborhood” links.
A more important note about the backlinks of the sidebar / footer:
These links are almost always links to the entire site.
This can destroy your site if you are using anchor text rich in keywords.
It will destroy your anchor text profile.
I know that web designers, marketing companies and web hosting companies love footer backlinks.
Therefore, if you decide to use them, I recommend that you use a brand anchor text.
There is an exception to this rule:
If you can manipulate the code so that your link is only displayed on the home page (where most of the authority of the site resides).
If you are using WordPress, you can use this Restrict Widgets add-on.
Automatic links
As a general rule, you should avoid automated link building tools at level one.
Some of these softwares include GSA, Ultimate Demon and SENuke.
These softwares take advantage of spam platforms and will probably cause your site to be penalized.
Now that you know what links to avoid like the plague, here are some fundamental backlinks you should build:
How to build “foundational” backlinks
“Fundamental” backlinks are what all normal websites should have.
They will create a trust layer around your site.
This is because you will not use anything other than non-optimized brand backlinks from authority sites.
We use this exact approach with each client that we assume and it works extremely well.
Important note:
You should only use nudge links or brand anchors for critical backlinks.

Social media
The first thing you should do is secure all your social network properties.
At a minimum, your business must have:
• Facebook
• Twitter (follow me)
• LinkedIn (connect with me)
• Pinterest
• Instagram
You do not have to actively market on these platforms, but it certainly will not hurt you.
For example, for Gotch SEO, my social media manager decided that Facebook was our best social media platform based on referral traffic and commitment.
That’s why we’re “all-in” on Facebook and we’re not that active on the other platforms.
Choose which platforms work best for your business.
At a minimum, fill in these accounts and share some content, so that at least you have a base.
Exclusive: get access to more than 300 sites to protect your brand.
Company data / appointments
Google values ​​business lists so much that it is separate from the local search algorithm.
This should be more than enough for you to use for ANY SEO campaign.
The interesting part of the listings is that approximately 50% of them give you a Follow link, without optimizing.
Business appointments are a perfect way to build a trust base on your site.
Remember before when I said that not all the backlinks that come to your site have to be 100% relevant?
I was referring to lists of companies and profiles of social networks.
Google relies on these platforms and is aware that all types of companies will use them.
In a certain sense, they get a pass because they are not relevant.
Directories oriented to niches
While most directories do not have any value, there are some rough diamonds.
Directories directed to niches offer a relevant link and follow.
As you know, backlinks with these two characteristics are hard to come by.
Use these search strings on Google to find specialized directories:
• NICHE + Directory (Example: “fitness + directory”)
• NICHE Directories
• NICHE + “send site”

Geo-oriented Directories
Geo-oriented directories are a vital link source for local businesses.
Here are some search strings that you can use to find directories with geographic targeting:
• city + directory
• directory + city
• send my site + city
• niche + city + directory
• city + directories
Relevant comments of the niche blog
It always amazes me why so many SEOs skip comments from relevant niche blogs. Too many SEOs neglect them due to the dreaded “NoFollow” tag.
I recommend that you do not neglect them.
My agency uses relevant blog comments to:
• A) create a relevance layer around our client’s site
• B) improve the proportion of follow-up links and NoFollow
• C) diversify our anchors significantly.
• D) sometimes receives small amounts of reference traffic
In 2013, I was the first person to comment on an article by Brian:

• E) build a relationship with the blogger that could be used for backlinks in the future.
The “D” point is the most important and where most SEOs go wrong.
Do not go to a higher blog and write a comment of “me too” or something general / useless.
This does not build relationships.
You have to contribute to the blog in a meaningful way.
The most important:
You have to ADD VALUE.
This does not mean that I should write a five paragraph essay.
In fact, I advise against that.
Concentrate on one point and leave a concise and well thought out comment.
Relevant Niche Backlinks Backlinks
Participating in industry forums is an excellent way to generate brand recognition.
And if you do it right, you’ll drive relevant referral traffic to your website.
Here is the traffic that BlackHatWorld.com has sent to my site since 2014:

This is the reference traffic coming from 18 different threads in the forum.
The members of the forum have been linked to my content, but it would not be difficult to organize it if you are creative.
There are not many forums that allow for signature backlinks, but many still allow profile backlinks. These profile backlinks are valuable because they are relevant and follow in most cases.
To take full advantage of the backlinks of your forum profile, I will show you some quick techniques.
1. Perspective of the relevant forums.
Use the following search strings on Google to find forums:
• forum + NICHE
• Forum NICHO +
2. Take time to complete your profile
Since your link will probably be a naked link, you should take advantage of the co-occurrence.
Co-occurrence is when the key phrase of your website is near your link.
Simply enter a legitimate profile description and be sure to include your main keyword.
3. Understand the “personality” / label forum.
Each forum is different and you need to learn how each one works.
Some tolerate a bit of self-promotion, while others will forbid it.
Scan through the forum and see if members are sharing links in threads.

4. Increase your publications account and start adding friends.
The more messages / friends you have, the more confidence you will have in the forum. In addition, more connections send more internal links to your profile page.
This will slowly build the authority of your profile page.
5. Start a thread
Starting well-thought-out topics is a great way to build credibility in the forum.
Well, now you might be asking what is the point of doing all this.
The goal is to increase the amount of internal links that reach your profile page.
This takes advantage of the authority of the forums. As a result, the authority of your profile page that hosts your link will increase.
The second objective of all this work is that you can be part of the forum community and that members trust you more.
If you have a good reputation in the forum, you can share your content without being fired or banned.

Focus based on content
As difficult as it is to produce quality content, there is no better way to push high authority backlinks to a website.
There are only three things you should do with a content-based approach:
1. Find the right keywords to aim for
2. Create a large piece of content around that keyword
3. Promote content (social and backlinks).
When you create quality and very good content, you are creating ASSETS for your business.
No matter that what Google does or do, it can never take away your content.
It must address the construction of links with a long-term mentality in 2018 and beyond.
I use the investment analogy quite often, but it is true for SEO.
There is a composite effect of producing and promoting content in a consistent manner.
Keep in mind:
The following tactics are effective without content.
But you’ll get even better results if you create links to solid content assets.
Drafting Back links
For a link to be “editorial” you can not access the site and your link must pass the editorial review. Google values ​​editorial back links more than any other type of link.
Unfortunately, getting these high-authority back links can be a challenge.
First, you must establish relationships with bloggers in your industry. Second, you probably need to produce quality content to get natural back links.
My website has acquired thousands of high quality editorial back links at this point. We can get these back links of high authority because we have built relationships and we have connections.
Relevant publications of invited niches
The publications of the guests are effective in two ways.
• First, if you bring a lot of value, it will build your authority in space.
• Second, your guest publication can send relevant referral traffic to your website.
Keep in mind that Google frowns upon the publication of a spam guest. That means you need to focus your efforts and energy on producing a valuable guest post. If you give value, then there is nothing wrong with injecting back links to your website.
To get the most out of your invited publications, you need to get contextual links. Contextual links are much more powerful than author links.

The fusion technique
The fusion technique is the process of finding a relevant expired domain and redirecting it to your site.
The concept is simple:
You have just acquired a relevant business and want to redirect it to your parent company.
The key is that the expired domain is 100% relevant.
These domains are harder to find, but it’s worth it when you find one.
Resource pages
This is an old but good one.
Although SEO has abused this strategy, there are still some rough diamonds.
Once you find the pages, it is better to see if there are broken links on the page.
Use the Check My Link add-on.
You can use this as leverage when you arrive.
If there are no broken links, then you will need a strong content asset.
Otherwise, they are likely to deny you.
The white alternative to PBN
You already know about the White Hat alternative to PBN, but I also explain it here.
Instead of buying an expired domain and rebuilding it, you go to:
1. find an expired domain
2. scrape your backlinks
3. Then, contact them and let the linkers know that they are linking to a dead resource
If the expired domain is relevant, you can request the linker to replace the dead link with your site.
To improve your success rate, suggest 2-3 quality resources (including yours).
You can also recreate the original content if relevant. This is obvious, but the content must be better than the original.
Contact the linker and let him know the new revised content.
This strategy requires more time and effort, but gets more link locations.
Gray Hat Backlinks
I stay away from the gray hat techniques at this point, but I lived in this world for a long time.
NOTE: if you take the path of the gray hat, it increases the probability of obtaining a penalty.
None of these tactics is safe and I have seen websites that receive manual penalties when using each of them.
If there is so much risk, why am I showing it to you?
The reason is because many of these techniques work well.
These techniques are the best for people:
• Those who have a high risk tolerance.
• Who wants to classify without creating great content.
• Who does not care if your site is penalized
If you have a low risk tolerance, then you have two options:
A) avoid these backlinks altogether or B) use them at level two to increase your level one backlinks.

Take advantage of expired relevant domains
If you are going to create a PBN, then you should do well.
Do not limit yourself to buying any expired domain.
Try to find domains that have relevant topic trust flow topics for your niche.
This will not always be possible, but it’s worth the patience.
Obtaining a link from a relevant domain is more powerful than several irrelevant domains.

Some other options include: ExpiredDomains.net and Moonsy.
Web 2.0s
The creation of websites 2.0 on sites like Tumblr, Weebly and WordPress.com is an old gray hat strategy that still works. Just be careful because it can give you a penalty. I have obtained manual actions eliminated from the clients due to the web 2.0 backlinks.
I recommend that you avoid using these backlinks in level one.

How to WIN backlinks
Many people who do SEO confuse earning backlinks with building backlinks.
These are two different concepts.
To WIN, it means that you DESERVE backlinks.

You must obsess with pleasing your users.
Lately, I’ve been consumed with the overwhelming ambition to please my users.

If the user likes it, Google will like it.
I used to spend a lot of my time trying to figure out how to “cheat” or manipulate Google.

To build a real business, you must focus on pleasing the user.
All the time. On a consistent basis.
Understand that:
• Happy users are your marketing.
• Happy users will WIN you backlinks.
• Happy users will share your content on social networks.
• Happy users will return to your website.
Your SEO campaign will be transformed when you put your users first.

11 ways to get backlinks
1. You have to be user centered
Let’s be honest:
If users do not like your website, Google will not either.
Your approach should not be in the manipulation of algorithms.
Your focus / interest should be -what can I do now to help my prospective clients or readers?.
There is not a single online website that can not improve the user experience (UX).
There is always room / office to help more and give more.
A website that puts 100% effort in pleasing the user, will earn backlinks.
You need to remember how Google interprets a backlink.
It is a vote. Some of these “votes” are better than others.
Think of it this way:
The United States has just gone through an electoral cycle.
Candidates of Republicans and Democrats are fighting to win the nomination of their party.
When all the noise of the media is cut off, there is a powerful marketing technique at play:
Endorsements
Every time a candidate gets the backing of a well-known figure in the game, it’s a great deal.
A single endorsement can get huge amounts of news coverage.

Small endorsements are fine and overtime will increase.
But getting a backup from a well-known site in your industry is much more powerful.
The only way to obtain such backlinks, it is necessary to give a tremendous value to the user.
2. Your content should please the user
You already know how competitive content marketing is in the industries of entrepreneurs, SEO and marketing.
Bloggers are pumping amazing pieces of content.
Sometimes these pieces of content are more than 10,000 words.
Other times, hundreds of hours invest doing research and finding data.
This is the standard in these industries.
However, this is not the standard in all industries.
Should be?
Perhaps.
But is not.
There is no single formula for creating content that pleases the user.
That is why it can be dangerous to dive into previous industries.
Your sight is reduced.
You start thinking that the “good” content should be 1,800 words or more.
The truth is:
The “good” content comes in all shapes and sizes.
There are no laws to create great content.
I do not think every piece of content you create should be classified on the first page of Google.
Yes, most of your content should focus on just one keyword.
However, do not let the search engine determine what types of content you want to produce.
There are times when you need to solve a micro problem in your content.
This micro problem can only get 10 searches a month on Google.
WHO CARES.
As long as you intend to help someone, it will improve the value of your website.
There is not a problem too big or too small.
SEOs are wrapped in data, but forget about the user.
Who cares if Google is telling you that a particular keyword only gets 10 searches per month.
For all that matters to me, it is an opportunity to help approximately 10 people.

Creating clipped garbage will not get you anywhere. It will not help you on Google or help your business grow.
The successful business we see in the world are innovative and innovation.
They do not think about how to copy their competitors.
They think that what they can do is different and unique.
Take a look at the pages listed on Google for your destination keyword.
Think What can I do that is different from these 10 pages?

Outdated content
Creating updated content is the biggest way to be different.

Not all content will be obsolete if it is evergreen.

The most obvious attack plan is to create a piece of updated content, but that’s not all:

Do not play well when it comes to helping the user.

You need to win.

Lack of depth
It is sometimes surprising that some pages are classified on the first page of Google.
Many times, these pages are ranking because your site has a lot of authority.
If a page is classified due to the authority of the site, it is an opportunity for you.
Pages that are classified in this way will probably have “thin” content. You can master them by creating content with more depth. Not just a little more depth. Create massive depth in your content.
As I said before, do not let it be a competition.

Lack of data or research
The classification of some content on the first page of Google is excellent, but it lacks data and research.
If you identify pages like this, you can overwhelm them with data and research.

Lack of personality
Some content on the first page of Google will put you to sleep. The content has a “corporate”, impersonal tone.
The content becomes “corporate” when the company loses sight of the user.

Great content and copywriting is supposed to be simple and personal.

When I see content that is well classified (without personality), I know I will destroy it.

Use “YOU” in your content.
Talk with your reader
You are not writing for an audience.
You are writing for just one person.

I want “LOL” next time I see a page ranking with “corporate”, impersonal content.

Because it’s your job to get them out of the first page of Google by being personal and caring more about your users.

Lack of readability and visual appeal
I’m sure you’ve seen it:
• large unbearable text blocks
• without headers
• No images
• white font on a black background
• distracting designs
As I mentioned earlier, there are pages that are classified due to the authority of your website.
Some of these pages will have essay-type content that will provide me with flashbacks from the university.
To overcome them, create content that:
• is readable (use bullet points, lists, etc.)
• It is easy to scan (use descriptive headers)
• use beautiful images (use images to divide the long content)
• has a black font on a white background (it is easier to read / a proven writing principle)
• It has no distracting design elements. (your content is the most important element of the page.) Do not let your design be removed.
4. You must be willing to do what others do not
It is likely that you have already noticed a trend in this article. Great content marketing and ranking pages in Google require a huge amount of effort. You have to be willing to do what others will not do.
The good news is that most people are lazy.
• It is difficult to sit down and write every day.
• It is difficult to think outside the box.
• It’s hard not to get distracted.
But that is what is needed if you want to create content that produces results.
You will not always do well, but the more you produce, the more chances you will have to succeed.
Produces. Produces. Produces.
And when you finish producing, start producing more.
5. You must be creative
Being creative is difficult, but everyone struggles to find unique ideas.

6. You need to be unique
I can not stand the information held. I see it so often in all verticals and it is painful to see it.
Overloaded content will not earn you backlinks.
If all you can think of are repeated ideas, then do not post anything.
It is better to publish a piece of super unique content than to produce junk garbage.
Make it unique.
Be creative and be different.
Bloggers link to content and post that is innovative, unique and super valuable and reachable.
7. You must overcome others
As I explained in an earlier step, you must beat your competitors.
There are probably some competitors in your industry that are producing star content.
You need to overcome them.
They are the reference point.
Analyze your content and try your best to understand why it works well.
Ask:
• WHY get so many social actions?
• WHY receive so many blog comments?
• What makes them different from the thousands / millions of other bloggers in your industry?
Understanding why they succeed will help you develop a plan to beat them.
Remember:
The objective is not to defeat them in a sloppy or unethical way.
The objective is to overcome them, giving MORE value.
That must be your goal, no matter how difficult it may be.
8. You have to be consistent
Instead of trying to be perfect and true, you need to be consistent.
You should try to produce at least some content every day.
Will it always be a masterpiece?
Do not.
It is the ACT of producing content that is really valuable. That’s because their efforts will increase overtime.
It’s about working hard day after day.
You can look at Derek’s blog or other blog and see that he only publishes 1-2 times a month.
Does that mean he’s relaxing the rest of the month?
DO NOT.
You are working in other parts of your business that will bring value to your readers. It does not matter how often you post. It matters that you are producing value daily.
The more you produce or create, the better you will become and valuable.
Your thoughts will crystallize.
It is obvious that when someone worked very hard to produce a piece of content. That’s because the more effort you put into a piece of content, the better it will be.

The better the content, the more backlinks you will attract.
But you have to be consistent.
Consistency is not a God-given talent. It is about organization and planning.

9. You have to build relationships
To earn backlinks, you need to build relationships. Your blog can not be an island in the middle of the ocean. You need to build connections and relationships.
These relationships will lead to backlinks. Most of the time you will not have to ask for a link.
The simple fact of establishing relationships with the best bloggers will often lead to links.
That is, as long as its content is valuable and unique.
When trying to establish relationships, you should always focus on what YOU can do for the person.
Remember what I said about being user centered?
The same principle applies when it comes to building relationships. You must be thinking about how you can help the prospect. Not how you can get more out of them.
Give, give and give more. Then, you will receive.
Think about it:
Why would someone want to link to your blog after receiving a cold email request? I know I would not.
To get your blog and your name “out there” you need to use the repetition.

Take the 10 best results and execute them through Ahrefs or Majestic.

Bonus: What happens with the publication of guests?
I’m a big fan of guest posts, but it’s not a way to WIN backlinks for your website.
The reason is that you are responsible for reposting the link on your site.
That is not won.
In essence, YOU are deciding that it is worthwhile to link your website or content.
GANADO means that you created a great content, you promoted it and someone linked to it by free will.
As I said, there is nothing wrong with the publication of guests for:
• Brand building
• generation of traffic
• link construction
But as for being a LUCKY backlink, it is not.

My backlinks are not shown in the Google Search Console, Ahrefs, etc. Why?
The Google Search Console only shows a sample of your total link profile. While third-party tools such as Ahrefs are incredible when finding backlinks, they are not perfect or complete. Suppose that these tools only show a percentage of your full link profile.
Are the backlinks still important?
Other factors, such as content quality and User Experience (UX), have become more prominent, but backlinks are still very important for ranking. You can rank for some non-competitive keywords if your website is authoritative. However, in most scenarios, you will need high quality backlinks to give you that final boost.
Fiverr links are good?
In my experience, 99% of the link opportunities in Fiverr are bad. In general, I would avoid buying backlinks from Fiverr. Remember … you usually get what you pay for.
Are NoFollow backlinks good?
NoFollow backlinks are not good or effective because they do not pass the PageRank. The only time they are useful is if you are getting sales or referral traffic. But from an SEO perspective, they have no value.

How many backlinks do I need?
Take your target keyword and open the Keyword Explorer tool from Ahrefs. Scroll down and export the top 10 results for your target keyword phrase. Then, average the total of the link root domains for these results. That average is a good target for the amount of backlinks you’ll need to rank.
How many backlinks per day is safe?
You should only worry about the speed of the link when you are creating artificial backlinks. If you are acquiring backlinks through content promotion and dissemination, then you should not worry about this.
How many backlinks do I have?
Go Ahrefs, Majestic, SEMRush or Open Site Explorer and they will give you an idea of ​​the total amount of backlinks you have. Ahrefs is the most complete (IMO).
